On the 31st of last month, Namyangju City (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) secured 4 billion won in provincial funding after selecting Samungcheon Stream in the ‘Northern Gyeonggi Local River Low-Carbon Waterside Park Project’ contest hosted by Gyeonggi Province, and plans to push ahead with the project with a total project cost of 5 billion won by adding 1 billion won in municipal funds. The plan was announced on the 3rd.

The city actively expressed the need for project selection by explaining the need for a waterfront space for Saneungcheon Stream and its connection with surrounding development projects, resulting in the final selection in the public contest.

This ‘Saneungcheon Waterfront Space Creation Project’ will be carried out for a 1.02km section from Yakdaeulgyo Bridge in Pyeongnae-dong to the confluence of Jangnaecheon Stream.

Unlike the existing river improvement project, which was centered on disaster prevention, the key is to create a waterside park that residents can enjoy on a daily basis and connect a walking trail through Wangsuk New Town to Wangsuk Stream and the Han River.

In addition, in connection with the Gungjip traditional culture experience program, a Hopyeong-Pyeongnae circular walking trail will be built centered on rivers including Jangnaecheon. Through this, we plan to improve the quality of life for residents and further enhance the cultural value of the region.

This selection received active support from Gyeonggi Provincial Council member Jeong Kyeong-ja, and the city plans to work closely with local members of the National Assembly and provincial council members to discuss the direction of the project in the future.

Lee Gyeong-seon, Director of the Environment Bureau, said, “The goal of this project is to go beyond the existing water management-centered river maintenance and create a space where citizens can take a walk and relax.” He added, “It will improve the quality of life for local residents while also developing it as a tourist attraction to improve the local economy.” “I will contribute to development,” he said.

Meanwhile, Namyangju City (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 3rd that it had been selected for the ‘2025 Traditional Market and Shopping Mall Revitalization Support Project’ hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small Business Market Promotion Corporation.

The Traditional Market and Shopping Mall Revitalization Support Project is a project designed to strengthen the self-reliance of traditional markets and promote sustainable development through customized support tailored to the characteristics of each region and commercial district in accordance with the Special Act on the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Streets.

A total of 5 locations were selected for this project: △Janghyeon Traditional Market, △Geumgok Shopping Mall, △Geumgok Hongyureung Shopping Mall, △Dasan Sangsaeng Shopping Mall, and △Deokso Shopping Mall, and a total project cost of 320 million won was secured.

As part of the ‘First Step Foundation Creation’ project, Geumgok Hongyureung Shopping Mall plans to focus on five key tasks, including improving payment convenience, indicating prices and origins, improving hygiene and environment, strengthening merchant organization capabilities, and safety management. Through this, we focus on increasing customer satisfaction by creating a clean and convenient shopping environment.

Janghyeon Traditional Market, Geumgok Shopping Mall, Deokso Shopping Mall, and Dasan Sangsaeng Shopping Center focus on strengthening the self-reliance of shopping centers and enhancing the capabilities of merchants by carrying out joint marketing and support for market managers through the ‘Market Management Package’ project.

In addition, the city achieved the success of having seven locations selected for the ‘2025 Traditional Market Manager Development Project’ hosted by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Market Promotion Agency.

Accordingly, managers with expertise will be assigned to △Janghyeon Traditional Market △Geumgok Shopping Mall △Geumgok Hongyureung Shopping Mall △Dasan Sangsaeng Shopping Mall △Dasan Station Rodeo Shopping Mall △Dasan Jungang-ro Shopping Mall △Millstone Anvil Shopping Mall to strengthen merchant organization capabilities and promote local economic development. It is planned.

Based on this project, Namyangju City plans to promote various projects that take advantage of the characteristics and advantages of traditional markets and shopping streets, and add vitality to the local economy.
