Park Dum-woo Secures Judo Championship, Han Kyung-jin Claims Second Consecutive Title
A dominant performance by Park Dum-woo at the 4th Yangpyeong Mongyang Cup National Judo Tournament has marked a high point in the Korean judo scene, alongside Han Kyung-jin’s continued success.
Park Dum-woo, representing Namyangju City Hall, triumphed in the men’s general +100kg class at the tournament held on Thursday, July 23rd, at the Yangpyeong Gymnasium. The athlete, guided by director ‘Jijang,’ secured the championship with a decisive victory over Kim Hyun-tae of Busan City Hall.
“Park’s victory demonstrates a commitment to excellence and a strategic approach to competition,” noted a senior official following the match.
Adding to the day’s successes, Han Kyung-jin of the Yangpyeong-gun Office achieved a remarkable feat by winning his second consecutive title in the 100kg division. He defeated Lee Hong-kyu of KORAIL with just three seconds remaining in the match, following a semi-final win against Kang Min-jae of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Sports Association.
Park Hee-won (Yongin City Hall) also claimed gold in the 81kg category, overcoming Lee Jae-mook (Daegu City Hall) in the quarter-finals and securing victory after three rounds.
The tournament also saw success for university athletes. Yoon Jung-bin (Yongin University) in the 60kg division and Lee Do-hyeop (Yongin University) in the 66kg division both reached the finals, defeating Lim Jin-hyun (Kookmin University) and Ahn Hyun-woo (Korea National University) respectively. The two Yongin University athletes celebrated their victories with a shared embrace.
In the women’s college division, Lee Ji-hee (Gyeonggi University) secured a win in the 70kg final against Song Da-young (Korea National University), while Hong Seung-yeon (Incheon City Hall) earned a silver medal in the 90kg category.
The 4th Yangpyeong Mongyang Cup National Judo Tournament showcased the depth of talent within Korean judo, with athletes demonstrating skill and determination across multiple weight classes. The event, organized by the Korea Judo Provision, continues to be a vital platform for identifying and nurturing the next generation of judo stars.
