jpnn.comSEMARANG – Acting Governor of Central Java Nana Sudjana released 1,141 Central Java contingents who will compete at the XXI National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh-North Sumatra (North Sumatra) on 8 -20 September 2024.

The contingent’s release was held at the Jatidiri Sports Hall (GOR), Semarang City, on Saturday, August 24, 2024 evening.

Nana explained that the Central Java contingent consists of 758 athletes and 383 coaches and officials. They will compete in 60 sports, out of a total of 65 sports competed this year.

With the many sports that are followed, Nana hopes, it is directly proportional to the medal acquisition. At least, it is targeted that 50 gold medals can be brought home.

He also targeted Central Java’s ranking in the XXI PON event to be in the top three, or experience an increase from the previous period which was in the top 6.

“At least there is an improvement in the ranking and it can increase the medal tally,” said Nana.

Nana added that in order to achieve this target, over the past 7 months or so, the intensity of the athletes’ training has been increased.

The Central Java Sport Tourism Event (Specta) which has been held since February 2024, is also a means of warming up and training for athletes.
