The kidnapper set a strict timeline for payment in bitcoin, beginning with a $4 million demand due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5. This amount escalated to $6 million if the first deadline was missed, with a final cutoff of 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9. The note warned that if the final deadline passed, Nancy Guthrie will be killed

Investigators took the note seriously because it contained specific, non-public details about the home.
