The room chosen for the title is the large room in the center of the called Picture Gallery “Hall of the Old Government” where, until the 1970s, the governors met to decide on charitable activities. Not a random choice since the floor of the room displays the emblem of the institution, with seven mountains surmounted by a cross, made with Vietri ceramics and donated by Gianpaolo Leonetti to Pio Monte in 1988.

Also on display is the most important nucleus of Francesco De Mura’s canvases, evidence of the vast production of the greatest painter in Naples in the second half of the eighteenth century.

with great emotion and immense gratitude that we remember Gianpaolo Leonetti of Santo Janni – he says Fabrizia Patern of San Nicola, superintendent of Pio Monte della Misericordia – dear friend, great man of culture and extraordinary interpreter of courage and the will to live. With this small gesture of naming and dedicating the Old Government Hall of the Quadreria to him, we wish to forever bind his memory to our home in the memory of his generosity and industriousness.

We are particularly grateful to the superintendent and governors of Pio Monte della Misericordia for having created the title of a Room of the Picture Gallery to Gianpaolo Leonetti d Santo Janni – declares Maria Grazia Leonetti Rodin -. A significant gesture of great importance, because with it we wanted to recognize the commitment and the results obtained by him for the enhancement of the Institution in the patrimonial, real estate and artistic fields, and in the financial field. A recognition to those who with competence and passion have ferried the Pio Monte della Misericordia from the 17th century to the present day.

Gianpaolo Leonetti, great protagonist of the cultural life of Naples, was several times Superintendent of the Pio Monte della Misericordia and with commitment he followed in the footsteps and love of his father Tommaso for the institution in via dei Tribunali with an extraordinary personal dedication both to his artistic and social nature. Since the 80s he has been involved in non-profit activities, guiding the noble institution of Pio Monte in the 2000s making it a private institution, carrying out the management and restructuring of the vast real estate assets and dedicating himself to the promotion of its prestigious historical-artistic heritage. He was responsible for the reorganization of the Entity’s finances when in 1996 it came out of the difficult period in which it was subjected to the control of CORECO, an organ of the Region; the reorganization of the immense real estate assets by inventorying and enhancing the most important buildings and alienating those of little value; the digitization of the historical archive which, together with four other cultural institutes, he was able to bring together in a single one Polo degli Archives (Institute of Homeland History, Institute of Historical Studies, Benedetto Croce Library Institute and the Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro). He oversaw the reopening, after 14 years of closure, of the Filangieri Museum which should have been included in the Archives Center. He also conceived the Via Duomo project, the Via dei Musei which contains the Filangieri Museum, the Treasure of San Gennaro, the Pio Monte della Misericordia, the Museo dei Gerolamini, the MADRE Museum and the MANN-National Archaeological Museum of Naples.. was director of the Filangieri Museum – appointed in 2005 by the mayor Rosa Russo Iervolino and the superintendent Nicola Spinosa – president of the Digital Pole of the Neapolitan Archives, founder and vice president of Capodimonte’s friends.
