Naranjal promoted its 2024 Red Crab Gastronomic Festival in Cuenca – La Nación

On Sunday, August 4, the traditional Red Crab Festival 2024 will be held in the Naranjal canton, Guayas province, an event that seeks to encourage trade and tourism through the marketing of gastronomic products made with this crustacean.

Marcos Suárez Altamirano, Director of Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sports Management of the Naranjal GAD, gave details about the origin and organization of the popular Festival, explaining that “The red crab that is caught in the mangroves of the area, and is one of the characteristic foods that maintain the economy of this town”.

For this edition of the Festival, an extensive programme is planned that will include artistic shows, children’s shows, contests and concerts. Numerous stands will present the culinary offering based on the red crab, with dishes such as ceviches, salads, empanadas, stuffed shells, etc. There will also be the presence of influencers, artisans and various entrepreneurs. As a novelty this year, a “living mangrove” will be presented.

Alexandra Barba, representative of the Zonal Directorate 6 of the Ministry of Tourism, congratulated the organizers of this event and referred to the importance of generating this type of exchange in which gastronomy is promoted as a key aspect for the tourist offer of a destination. She also pledged the unconditional support of this State portfolio for the strengthening and promotion of the Festival.

After the press conference, several Naranjal chefs offered a tasting of some of the most emblematic dishes made with red crab.

In addition to this Festival, travelers can also enjoy various tourist attractions in the Naranjal canton, including its waterfalls, hot springs, mangroves, the Inca Trail, the Hayas Hill and the Manglares Churute Ecological Reserve.
