Narbonne: Mayor Didier Mouly died at the age of 72

He passed away after several days in hospital. The mayor of Narbonne, Didier Mouly, died on Sunday at the age of 72 following a long illness, his first deputy, Bertrand Malquier, announced.

Elected mayor in 2014, then re-elected in 2020 with 43.57% of the votes in the second round during a quadrangular, Didier Mouly (DVD) was also president of the Greater Narbonne urban community.

In a press release paying tribute to this “lover of Narbonne”, the town hall affirms that he has “left his mark on the territory, by undertaking, with his team, numerous major transformations” including the “modernization of public space” .

He was notably at the origin of the creation, at the end of 2019, of the Narbonne Arena, which has established itself today as an events and sports hub in the region, recalls the city’s X account, formerly Twitter. “With this departure, it is a lover of Narbonne who disappears. Deeply human, attentive to the concerns of all, he will leave an indelible mark in the memory of all those who knew him,” writes the municipal account.

He held office until the last days

The PS president of the Occitanie region, Carole Delga, also paid tribute on Sunday evening in a press release to this “worthy successor to his father, Hubert Mouly, who preceded him as town hall of Narbonne” from 1971 to 1999. “Master Didier Mouly had a passion for his city deep in his heart. His energy and his work force in the exercise of his mandates, his courage and his dignity in the face of illness command respect,” writes the regional president.

For his part, the deputy for Aude, Frédéric Falcon said he was “touched by his combativeness and his desire to serve our city (in recent weeks) by remaining present alongside the people of Narbonne, by his participation in all circumstances in the celebrations and demonstrations, despite the fatigue and the risks incurred for his health.
