NASA: A huge hole has opened in the sun – this is how it will affect the Earth on Friday

by time news

Scientists from the US National Space Agency, NASA, are tracking a strange phenomenon that is occurring for the second time in a week on the Sun. The first “hole,” spotted on the surface of the star at the center of the solar system on March 23, is 30 times larger than Earth, with the second 20 times larger. Both holes were recorded by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), which studies the events. on the star

According to the National Space Agency: “The holes are open areas that are one source of high-velocity solar wind. They appear dark when viewed in ultraviolet light as can be seen in the record. Occasionally, the solar wind can create a glow at high latitudes on Earth.”

Compared to the first, the second hole is on the “equator” of the sun. “The shape of the hole is not special but the location makes it very interesting,” Daniel Verschern, professor of space and climate physics at University College London told Insider. “Fast winds emitted from the hole will blow to Earth Friday night through Saturday morning this week.”

Although the picture may seem alarming, it does not indicate that humanity is in danger. Sunholes are a common feature of the star, although they appear in different locations – especially near the poles – and more frequently at different times of the sun’s activity cycle.
