The American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) reported on the successful progress of experiments on the production of oxygen on Mars. According to Sky Newsoxygen was produced using a special device by the Perseverance rover, which was delivered to the surface of Mars in February 2021.

NASA reports that during its stay on Mars, Perseverance, using a small device called MOXIE, started the process of producing oxygen from carbon dioxide, which makes up 95% of the atmosphere of this planet, 16 times. During the experiment, a total of 122 g of oxygen was produced, and this amount is enough to breathe one astronaut for three hours.

According to NASA spokeswoman Pam Melroy, the result of the experiment far exceeded the original goals and confirmed the practical feasibility of producing oxygen directly on Mars. In this case, oxygen can be used, the expert says, not only for life support for participants in future expeditions to this planet, but also for the production of rocket fuel.
