Washington: NASA has announced a space tourism program following Russia’s successful entry into space tourism. NASA’s first space tourism mission to the International Space Station will begin on February 28, 2022, officials said. The project is organized by Texas-based Axiom Space. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket and crew Dragon spacecraft are said to be used for the project.

The project is called the Ax-1 Space Tourism Mission or Private Astronaut Mission. The week – long project will be attended by Canadian businessman Mark Pathi, American entrepreneur Larry Connor and former Israeli Air Force pilot Eita Stibb. The project’s mission commander will be former NASA astronaut Michael Lopez Allegri. The three tourists will visit the space station at a cost of $ 55 million. Axiom Space is also the organizer of NASA’s second private space tourism program. NASA aims to complete this by 2023. NASA and Russia’s Roscosmos aim to raise funds for new research projects by exploiting the potential of space tourism. Russia made history in October by sending two people to the space station to film a movie, after which it sent two Japanese astronauts aboard the Soyuz spacecraft of Roscosmos. At the same time, there is criticism that the space tourism project could cause massive air pollution.
