NASA Director Bill Nelson called for an investigation into a report published by the Wall Street Journal stating that Elon Musk – the founder of SpaceX and an ally of former President Donald Trump – and Russian President Vladimir Putin had been in “regular contact” since… Late 2022.
The American network CNN stated, in a report published on Friday, that the “Wall Street Journal” report, which stated that Musk discussed “personal and business topics and geopolitical tensions” with the Russian leader, raised national security concerns, as SpaceX’s relations with the agency may be… NASA and the US Army gave Musk access to sensitive US government or intelligence information.
Nelson said in an interview with the Semaphore news website on Friday: “I don’t know if this information is correct, but I think it should be investigated.”
He added: “If it is true that there were multiple conversations between Musk and the Russian President, I think it is a matter of concern, especially for NASA, the Pentagon, and some other intelligence agencies.”
Last year, some American officials expressed concerns about Musk’s communication with US adversaries such as Russia, but the American intelligence community remained reluctant to investigate this communication because Musk is an American citizen, according to what an official familiar with the matter told CNN.
In turn, the Kremlin denied, on Friday, a report by the American newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin and the billionaire founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk, had been in regular secret contact since 2022.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, “All of this is not true, completely false information was published in the newspaper,” according to what was reported by Agence France-Presse.
Peskov believed that the report in the American newspaper was “most likely another false narrative during an extremely heated American election campaign.” In the midst of international tensions, and amid alliances forming and disintegrating, American, European and Russian sources revealed the existence of regular secret communications between Elon Musk, the richest man in the world. The owner of the space empire, Russian President Vladimir Putin, dates back to late 2022, according to the Wall Street Journal.
