NASA head Bill Nelson said that China is masking its military presence in space and expressing its intention to capture the Earth’s satellite, the Moon.

This was reported by the news agency Sky News.

Over the past 10 years, China has taken “extraordinary steps” in space exploration, but many of them have remained highly secretive, he said.

“We believe that a large part of their so-called civilian space program is a military program. The last date they have given that they are going to land on the moon is 2030, but it keeps shifting. We have an obligation to get there first and use our research efforts in peaceful purposes,” Nelson said during a speech in the US Congress.

He suggested that if China were to land on the moon first, this could serve as the basis for claims to part of outer space as its territory. Nelson also added to his remarks by expressing hope that the Chinese space program will come to its senses and realize that civil space is intended for peaceful purposes. However, he also noted that there is currently no demonstration of this awareness on the part of China.

Previously, Cursor wrote that NASA head Bill Nelson said that China may seek to dominate resource-rich regions of the Moon, or even try to fully claim it, possibly preventing US access there. Chinese media contradict Nelson’s remarks, citing statements from experts and officials.
