NASA unveils Project Artemis, a US government-funded manned space program to send humans to the moon.
American private companies, NASA, the European Space Agency, Japan, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Luxembourg and Ukraine will take part in the project.
“We will build an Artemis base camp on the surface and a Gateway in lunar orbit. These elements will allow our robots and astronauts to explore more and conduct more scientific research than ever before,” the project’s website says.
Artemis I will be the manned flight test of the space launch system and Orion spacecraft around the Moon. Artemis II will be the first manned test of the space launch system and spacecraft. Artemis III is scheduled to perform regularly on crewed Artemis missions on and around the Moon.
