NASA Ingenuity Helicopter on Mars – NASA

MADRID, 3 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter on Mars, first controlled flight powered aircraft deployed on another worldhas reestablished contact with the Perseverance rover after 63 days of radio silence.

An interruption of communications was expected by those responsible for the mission. After Flight 52 on April 26, Ingenuity landed in an area where a hill blocked communication between him and the rover.

“So far, the data indicates that all is well with the helicopter, and that Ingenuity could fly again soon,” reports the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), which operates the helicopter, on his Twitter account.

Ingenuity arrived on Mars in the belly of the Perseverance rover, which landed in Jezero crater from the red planet in February 2021. Designed for a 30-day mission, the small 1.8-kilo helicopter has exceeded all performance expectations with more than eleven kilometers of flight, obtaining valuable aerial images.
