NASA wants to partner with Russia to create a lunar station

The head of NASA, Bill Nelson, said that he expects to cooperate with Russia on the project of the lunar station Gateway. He promised to discuss this topic with the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin.

Gateway is part of the program for sending astronauts to the moon (Artemis). The station will be placed in a halo orbit several thousand kilometers from the Moon. It is planned to send the first modules for the station no earlier than May 2024.

“I would like Russia to cooperate with us on the Gateway. Russia did not let us know if they wanted to cooperate on the Gateway, but I think we definitely want them to (cooperate. – “B”) “, – the head of NASA explained to RIA Novosti.

In September 2017, Russia and the United States signed an agreement of intent to build the Deep Space Gateway lunar station. Later the name of the project was changed to Lunar Orbital Platform — Gateway. In January 2021, Dmitry Rogozin said that Russia had never entered the US lunar program.
