Spanish star Rafael Nadal advanced to the 3rd round of the Wimbledon tennis tournament in England.
Nadal, who is at the 2nd position in the ranking, beat Lithuania’s Ricardus Perakins in the 2nd round in 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 sets. Nadal will meet Italy’s Lorenzo Sonico in the next round. Sonico, who is ranked 27th, defeated France’s Hugo Gaston in the previous round.
Top seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia qualified for the 4th round by defeating fellow countryman Miomir Kechmanovic in straight sets 6-0, 6-3, 6-4.
Zachary lost: In the women’s singles, Germany’s Tatjana Maria shocked the 5th ranked Maria Zachary of Greece by 6-3, 7-5. Tunisia’s Anse Zabiur, Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, Belgium’s Elise Moden have qualified for the 4th round, and America’s Coco Gough has qualified for the 3rd round.
Sania win: India’s Sania Mirza/Croatia Matt Pavic defeated Georgia’s Zalamitsi/Spain’s David Vega Honnandez 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (10/3) to advance to the second round of mixed doubles.
