Corresponding member Prof. Dr. Miroslav Dachev is the new rector of NATFIZ. This was announced by the academy after elections were held for the rector, academic council and control council.

Miroslav Dachev was born on July 19, 1962. He is a professor of art semiotics in the “World Culture” department. He is a graduate of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. He has a doctor of philological sciences since 1997 with the thesis “Colour Semiotics”. He has been an associate professor since 1999 and a professor of semiotics since 2003. He has been a corresponding member of the BAS since 2021.

After graduating in 1987, he joined the Literary Institute at the BAS, where he worked until 1999 as a researcher on problems of literary history and theory (literary semiotics). He began his teaching career in 1992 at SU (as an assistant in new Bulgarian literature) and at the newly established New Bulgarian University (as a semiotics teacher until 2006). Since 2006, he has been a visiting professor, and since 2010, a professor of semiotics of culture at NATFIZ.

His teaching activity is in an interdisciplinary field that meets semiotics with the fields of culture, literature, art, mythologies and religions – with an emphasis on sign, gesture, meaning, symbol, interpretation; the dialogue between word and image.

He is a National Bologna Advisor for Bulgaria on the issues of higher education from the quota of the Council of Rectors (2004-2008). Member of the advisory committee of “Erasmus”, NA “Socrates” Bulgaria (2005-2006). He is a member of the Board of the National Council for Distance Education (2001-2009; 2018 – until now). Deputy rector for academic activities and quality at NBU (1999-2007).

He is co-chairman of the Association of Private Higher Schools in Bulgaria (2003-2009). He is a member of the board of VUZF (2007-2010) and of committees of the board of the NBU (1999-2006). Chairman (since 2008) and honorary chairman (since 2016) of the Association for Career Guidance and Development in Higher Education. He is the founder and chairman of the Center for Semiotic and Cultural Studies (since 2012). Member of the Accreditation Council of NAOA from the quota of the Council of Rectors (from 2020).
