The National Council wants to abolish the imputed rental value even for second homes. It maintained this decision on Wednesday. At the same time, it aims to create a constitutional basis for a property tax on second homes. This builds a bridge to the Council of States.

The National Council is advocating for a complete system change. Thus, the imputed rental value is to be abolished for secondary properties as well. This decision was supported by the large chamber with 153 votes in favor, 39 against, and one abstention.

The medium-term goal of the National Council is to create a constitutional basis for a property tax on second homes. This should give the affected cantons the opportunity to levy a special property tax, thereby compensating for the loss of revenue that is expected as a result of a complete system change in the taxation of imputed rental value.

The large chamber voted in favor of the new constitutional provision without dissent. However, this still needs to be decided by the Council of States.
