They stressed, in statements to the press at the end of the meeting, that these demands, particularly concerning the freezing of the new status of civil servants in the National Education system and the improvement of the income of civil servants in the sector, had been accepted by the government.

The Secretary General of the National Federation of Education (UMT), Miloud Maassid, indicated that the executive responded favorably to the unions’ request to freeze the status of civil servants in National Education, considering that this meeting took place in a positive atmosphere.

“We have seen a political will on the part of the government to improve the material conditions of civil servants in the sector and to refrain from any deductions from the salaries of strikers,” he added.

Mr. Maassid indicated that the meeting scheduled soon with the ministerial commission, appointed by the head of government to provide answers to the problems related to the status of civil servants in National Education, will be devoted to the revision and amendment of this text as well as the discussion of the increase in salaries.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Free Federation of Education (UGMT), Youssef Allakouch, indicated that the executive had given its agreement to the four points raised by the unions, namely the freezing of the status of teachers, its amendment within a period of January 15, the improvement of the income of education civil servants, and the cessation of administrative measures and levies against strikers.

This is a “positive step” towards calming the situation in the sector in the coming days, he said, stressing the need to work towards a definitive solution to this issue.

The Secretary General of the National Education Union (CDT), Youness Firachine, noted that the meeting took place in a positive climate, noting that the freezing of the status of national education civil servants will allow for discussion of all the provisions of this text in order to amend it in order to respond to the demands of teachers, including that related to the increase in salaries.

This is a positive step towards a definitive solution to this issue, he said, while encouraging the players in the sector to combine efforts to raise the public school to the expected level, while respecting the interests of the teacher and the student.

For his part, the Secretary General of the National Union of Education (FDT), Sadik Rghioui, affirmed that the meeting with the head of government made it possible to respond to the demands of the unions, specifying that the freezing of the status, the revision of remuneration and the question of salary deductions, as well as the improvement of income and the continuation of the dialogue initiated are among the most important points discussed.

This meeting was held in the presence of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, and the Minister Delegate for the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa (by videoconference).
