The 68th National Film Awards will be announced tomorrow. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the National Media Center in Delhi at 4 pm. According to reports, the films Surarai Potr, Ayyappanum Koshiyum and Malik are competing for various categories from Malayalam and Tamil.

It is reported that Suriya and Aparna Balamurali are being considered for the Best Actor and Actress awards for their performances in Soorarai Potri. Ayyappan and Koshi may be the best Malayalam film. Biju Menon is also in the running for the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in the film. There are also reports that Malik is considering the Malayalam film for the best soundtrack award. Bollywood star Ajay Devgn is also in the list of possible best actors.

Last year’s National Film Awards gave Malayalam cinema a chance to be proud. Priyadarshan’s Mohanlal film Marakaar: The Lion of the Arabian Sea won the best film award. Marakar also won awards for best costumes and special effects. Helen directed by Mathukutty Xavier won two awards. The film won awards for best debutant director and cinematography. The best cinematographer award went to Girish Gangadharan (Jallikat). Prabha Varma (film Kolambi) won the award for best songwriting. The best Malayalam movie was ‘Kallanotta’ directed by Rahul Riji Nair. Sajin Babu also deserves a special mention for directing the Malayalam movie ‘Biryani’.
