Even though the match ended in three sets, Kerala became the champions in the men’s category with the thrill of a five-set thriller. Kerala won the first set 25-23 and fought back from six points behind in the second set.
Tamil Nadu took the lead in the third set and came close to the set point. Kerala won the set 27–25 to account for their loss in the 2015 Games. In the women’s category too, Kerala faced a challenge from Bengal in the second set. Kerala won the longest set 36–34. In the points table, Services secured first position and Maharashtra second position. Kerala, which faced a huge setback in athletics, was relegated to the sixth position.
