The first Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the ESE Hospital San Andrés in Tumaco, Nariño, was inaugurated. This new module strengthens the capabilities of highly complex care in the region, and is part of the National Government’s efforts to transform the health system in Colombia.

This healthcare center has taken an important step by formalizing 18 health professionals through the signing of direct contracts with the institution, thus ensuring a highly trained team to provide timely and quality care. This reflects the National Government’s commitment to protecting lives in the country.

“We have to ensure that San Andrés Hospital has everything that a high-complexity hospital has: cardiologists, anesthesiologists, orthopedists, among others. Any service that Tumaco needs must be provided here. Health cannot be a business and everyone must have access”: assured Minister Guillermo Jaramillo.

The official also added: “This is just the beginning to open more spaces in health. We need people not to leave here, that everything that can be done here in the hospital is done. Any specialist who wants to come to Tumaco will be welcomed with open arms.”

The construction of the ICU at San Andrés Hospital was completed on August 12 of this year, with an investment of $1,246,172,000, which was allocated through Resolution 2539 of 2022. These resources allowed for improvements in emergency services, outpatient consultation, technological strengthening of the clinical laboratory, the incorporation of new services, as well as various adjustments, contributing to guaranteeing timely and quality access to health services in the region.

“Today the doors of health are opened not only for Tumaco, but for all the surrounding regions,” added the mayor of Nariño, Julio César Rivera.
