Although the circumstances are difficult, the elements of the national team, which shone brightly at the African championship (Tangier-2020), retain all their chances to secure their qualification for the Tokyo Olympic Games during the next two qualifying stages scheduled in Rabat and Paris, the Egyptian coach stressed in an interview with MAP.
The national team includes young practitioners with an average age of 20, the coach rejoiced, noting that among them are karatekas who will reach the legal age to participate in the Olympic Games in 2021, like those who distinguished themselves during the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires (2018), notably Nabil Chaabi, silver medalist and Oussama Edari, bronze medalist.
While noting that the teams are obsessed with the idea of exceeding the legal age to participate in the Olympic Games, the Egyptian technician recalled that the National Technical Directorate has placed at the center of its priorities the preparation of a team whose workforce is entirely composed of young athletes.
Furthermore, Mr. El Feky considered that the mission of the Technical Directorate after the postponement of the competitions is now to ensure the maintenance of the physical fitness of Moroccan athletes, noting that the latter must continue their training at home on a regular basis and be fully ready to begin the qualification stages at any time determined by the Olympic committees and international federations depending on the evolution of the health situation.
As for home training, the Egyptian executive explained, a program is transmitted to karatekas, consisting of exercises for maintaining physical fitness and other more technical exercises.
Through social networks, communication is simpler and allows an exchange of videos between the coach and the athletes, he added.
Alongside the instructions of the coach and the physical trainer, mental coaching has been set up by the Royal Moroccan Karate Federation to support the elements of the national team, by organizing videoconferences with the participation of all the karatekas to help them overcome this ordeal and focus on their objectives, the highlight of which is participation in the Tokyo Olympics.
Mr. El Feky concluded that the postponement of the Olympic Games is a real opportunity for Moroccan karatekas who have more time to train more and increase their chances of qualifying for this major world event.
The national team, which will participate in the Tokyo Olympic qualifiers, is made up of the elements that led the selection to the top of the general ranking during the 12th African Games (Rabat 2019), notably Aicha Sayah (-50 kg), Sanae Agalmam and Abdessalam Ameknassi (-60 kg), Nabil Chaâbi (-84 kg), Btissam Sadini (-61 kg) and Yassine Sekouri (-75 kg).
