National Police Colonel Pleads Guilty in Metastasis Case

National Police Colonel Neycer Mazón has pleaded guilty to organized crime in the Metástasis case, in a hearing at the National Court of Justice (CNJ) presided over by Judge Manuel Cabrera.

Mazón is one of the ten defendants who have requested an abbreviated procedure to accept their responsibility and thus obtain a reduction in sentence. Among the defendants are judges such as Ángel Lindao and Emerson Curipallo, as well as Daniel Salcedo and Mayra Salazar, who have collaborated with the investigation.

The Prosecutor’s Office accuses Mazón of being the direct perpetrator of the crime, highlighting his role as head of the Samborondón District in the province of Guayas. He is accused of maintaining direct communication with drug trafficker Leandro Norero through the Threema application. Mazón allegedly leaked information and provided security at Norero’s seized home, also trying to recruit more police personnel for the organization.

In the course of the case, Judge Manuel Cabrera has already sentenced Gabriel García to 40 months in prison. García accepted his guilt in the crime of organized crime, linking himself to Norero. His involvement was detected during the massacre in the Cotopaxi prison, where Norero was killed.

The hearing of the other defendants will continue on Wednesday, July 17. The others who have requested the abbreviated procedure are Helive Angulo, Christian Sánchez, Héctor Paredes, Ángel Lindao, Emerson Curipallo, Alex Palacios, Daniel Salcedo and Mayra Salazar, who are seeking a quick trial accepting their responsibility to reduce their sentences.
