South Korea national football team midfielder Jung Woo-young (35, pictured) has joined his hometown team Ulsan. Jung Woo-young, who has played in the Japanese, Chinese, Qatari, and Saudi Arabian leagues, will be playing in the Korean professional football K-League for the first time in 13 years since his professional debut.

Ulsan announced on the 9th, “We have recruited veteran midfielder Jung Woo-young, who is very active and has good defensive skills.” Jung Woo-young, who was born in Ulsan and graduated from Ulsan Hakseong High School, made his professional debut in 2011 in the Japanese professional soccer league Kyoto Purple Sanga. After that, he played for Jubilo Iwata, Vissel Kobe (both Japan), and Chongqing Lifan (China), and in 2018, he transferred to Al Sadd of the Qatar League and began his life in the Middle East. Jung Woo-young won the regular league championship three times in six seasons at Al Sadd, playing alongside legendary Spanish midfielder Xavi Hernandez (44). Jung Woo-young, who played for Saudi Arabian professional soccer team Al-Khaliz in the 2023-2024 season, chose to come to Ulsan to spend the end of his career in Korea. He said, “I want to prove my skills in front of the citizens of my hometown Ulsan.”

Jung Woo-young played for the national team in the 2018 Russia World Cup and the 2022 Qatar World Cup. He was not selected for the national team for a while under former coach Jurgen Klinsmann, but returned to the national team after 1 year and 3 months through the 2026 North and Central America World Cup 2nd Asian qualifier held under interim coach Kim Do-hoon in June.
