The two-day national strike announced by all unions except BMS in protest of the central government’s policies is progressing. Workers in the motor vehicle, banking, insurance, railways and electricity sectors are participating in the strike, which is seriously affecting normal life (national strike in progress).

Protesters block employees’ vehicle at Kochi BPCL. The strike in BPCL was earlier banned by the high court. In Kochi, except for the Metro, the transport system is almost at a standstill. Meanwhile, BEML, a central public sector undertaking, banned the national strike. The move is in line with an ordinance banning strikes in defense establishments.

Very few private vehicles are on the road. The situation is similar to the hartal in the High Range.
