National strike in Sri Lanka on Wednesday against Colombo tax hike. According to the International Monetary Fund, the tax has to be increased from January. Various trade unions had warned of a national strike if the government did not withdraw from the decision. However, President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued a notification the other day that the fares for public transport, freight transport, airport and port services, etc., will be increased. With this, organizations including doctors, teachers and bank employees have decided to go ahead with the indicative strike.
