Kozhikode: Kerala started with a defeat in the National Senior Women’s Football Championship. Mizoram beat Kerala by three goals to two in a thrilling match that lasted till the last minute. In the match played at Corporation EMS Stadium, Kozhikode, the hosts lost by a goal conceded in extra time. After leading by one goal in the first half, Kerala conceded two goals in the second half.

Mizoram took the lead in the 39th minute through a penalty by superstar Grace Lal Rampari. After conceding a goal, Kerala replied to Mizoram in the 44th minute. Kerala’s equalizer was scored by KV Atulya. In the next minute, Kerala took the lead through Femina Raj Valappil’s goal but Mizoram fought back in the second half. Mizoram scored the second goal in the 79th minute through Elizabeth Vanlalmavi. The score is 2‐2. Mizoram won the toss and elected to field.

Kerala captain and midfielder T Nikhila withdrew from the game in the 35th minute due to injury. Kerala’s next group matches will be against Uttarakhand on December 30 at 9.30 am and against Madhya Pradesh on December 2.
