NATO has appointed Patrick Turner as the Alliance’s special envoy in Kiev, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, quoted by DPA.
Turner will lead the NATO Representation in Ukraine from September. Stoltenberg said the senior British official had “many years of leadership experience”.
The official is tasked with coordinating the alliance’s political and practical support on the ground as Ukraine continues to defend itself against a full-scale Russian invasion.
Turner previously served as NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Operations and Assistant Secretary General for Defense Policy and Planning.
NATO has had an official presence in Kyiv for almost a decade, including a liaison office and an information and documentation center that have existed since the late 1990s.
Among other things, he makes contacts with Ukrainian ministries and authorities and aims to promote political dialogue and practical cooperation with NATO, writes BTA.
