NATO deploys commandos in Ukraine’s neighboring countries

New York: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday that NATO was deploying commandos to countries sharing borders with Ukraine and that warships and warplanes were moving towards the Ukrainian coast in the wake of the Russian occupation.

The Secretary-General announced that NATO Rapid Response Force has been deployed in land, air and sea areas. Various NATO countries have also announced that they will supply arms to Ukraine. But NATO did not elaborate on what these countries are and what types of weapons they provide. NATO allies are committed to supporting Ukraine. “We will do everything we can to protect the borders of NATO nations,” he said.

Russia is moving to overthrow the democratically elected government in Ukraine, Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said after a meeting of NATO nations. NATO’s 40,000 troops are reportedly not deployed at this stage. The French-led Special Task Force is currently deployed along the Ukrainian border.

NATO members from Russia’s neighboring Estonia to Bulgaria on the north and south coasts of conflict – stricken Ukraine have expressed concern over the situation in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. Thousands of people from Ukraine have recently arrived in Europe as refugees. Ukraine does not allow men of military age to leave the country. So the majority of those crossing the border are women, children and the elderly.
