NATO has 3-4 years to prepare for a test from Russia. This was stated today by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, quoted by the Associated Press.

Tsakhna told a joint news conference with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Szykorski that Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia did not see Russia as an immediate threat because Moscow was preoccupied with Ukraine. However, the minister pointed out that Russian President Vladimir Putin is strengthening his country’s military machine.

“However, we need to understand that the Russian military machine has gone into full gear, both in terms of production capabilities and mentality, because Putin now controls everything,” Tsakhna warned at the press conference in Warsaw.

The Estonian minister said that, according to the Estonian government, there are 3-4 years left until a NATO test by Russia, BTA reports.

Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia are considered the most likely targets if Russia one day decides to attempt an attack on a NATO country, AP notes. Poland, which has a much larger territory than the Baltic countries, also feels threatened. All four countries are staunch supporters of Ukraine.
