NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on China today to stop supporting Russian aggression against Ukraine, saying Beijing’s help was an important factor in the continuation of the war, Reuters reported.
“China has become a decisive factor in supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine,” Stoltenberg told reporters in Oslo. He argued that “it is China that enables the production of many of the weapons that Russia uses.”
Stoltenberg warned that Beijing’s continued fueling of the war in Ukraine could adversely affect its interests and reputation.
“I call on China to stop supporting Russia’s illegal war,” he said, quoted by BTA.
China has described such NATO statements as “malicious and biased”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in July that he did not want China, which has an “unrestricted” partnership with Russia, to act as a mediator, but that he hoped Beijing would put more pressure on Moscow to end the war.
