NATO Secretary General: “We are in a logistics race”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that a new major Russian attack had already begun, and that large quantities of ammunition should be sent to the Ukrainian army.

The Secretary General told reporters in Brussels, where the heads of the alliance are meeting, that in the last week the Russian army in Ukraine suffered hundreds of deaths, and that the Ukrainian army killed 824 Russian soldiers every day.

In Kiev, the Russian offensive is expected not only in the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in the east, but also in the sector of the city of Kharkiv in the northeast of the country.

According to Financial Times, Reuters and AP reports, Stoltenberg said Putin launched the attack and is sending thousands of troops to Ukraine. “We are in a logistical race,” said the Secretary General, “ammunition must reach Ukraine before the Russians gain initiative on the battlefield.”

According to him, the Ukrainian army uses huge amounts of artillery ammunition, between 6,000 and 7,000 shells a day, hence the importance of supplying the Ukrainian army with ammunition as quickly as possible.

At this week’s NATO leaders’ conference in Brussels, they will discuss, among other things, Zelensky’s requests to receive fighter jets, in addition to the tanks from Germany and the United States that have already been promised to him but will arrive in a few months.
