New Delhi: The central government on Thursday doubled the price of natural gas in the international market on account of rising prices.

Natural gas is used to generate electricity, to make compost, and to produce CNG and piped cooking gas for domestic use. As a result, prices of CNG and cooking gas are likely to rise.

ONGC, the country’s largest gas company, will raise the price of 1 Btu gas from $ 2.90 to $ 6.10, according to a project analysis by the Ministry of Petroleum.

The price of natural gas is fixed by the Central Government every six months on April 1 and October 1. Prices in India are based on the prices of gas-rich countries such as the United States, Canada and Russia.

In the last 10 days, petrol and diesel prices have gone up nine times to Rs 6.40 per liter. The price of cooking gas has also gone up by Rs 50 per cylinder.
