Nawaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Party, was arrested in 2018 in a corruption case. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison. However, Nawaz, who went to London in 2019 with the permission of the Lahore court to seek treatment due to health problems, has not returned to the country since then. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was deposed last April, has said that new elections should be held for the Pakistani Parliament.

Due to the expiry of the term, a new election has to be held for the Parliament of Pakistan by August next year. In this case, Nawaz Sharif is planning to return to Pakistan next month from London to lead his party in the next general election, according to a media report of the country. An official of the Muslim League party, who admitted this, said that the party would not agree to early elections to the Pakistan Parliament. It has been reported that the Shabazz government is planning to bring an amendment to the law to lift the ban imposed by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case on Nawaz Sharif, and steps are being taken to do so.
