by time news

The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, told why the republic in 2014 did not recognize Crimea as part of Russia. He named the reason in the film “Qazaq. History of The Golden Man ”, which is based on his interview with American director Oliver Stone.

“There was a referendum [в Крыму о воссоединении с Россией]… We did not recognize Crimea as Russian, because then it was necessary [бы] I admit [Южную] Ossetia, Abkhazia, Kosovo, Kosovo also asks us to [их] recognized, ”Nazarbayev said (quoted by TASS).

He recalled that the republic did not support the Ukrainian side at that moment either, and all the events arose due to the coup in Kiev.

“I love Ukraine, I studied there and am worried about what is happening,” Nazarbayev said.

Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014. This was preceded by a referendum on the status of the peninsula, as a result of which the overwhelming majority of the region’s residents voted for the transition to Russian jurisdiction.

An agreement on the admission of the Republic of Crimea to Russia and the formation of new subjects within the Russian Federation was signed on March 18 in the Kremlin. Prior to that, Nazarbayev spoke in favor of the need to preserve the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with RIA Novosti that he wants to visit Crimea and agreed on this with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, after the 2014 referendum, the peninsula became de facto and de jure Russian. The president’s trip to Crimea will mean the recognition of the peninsula as part of Russia, he added. This will deal a blow to relations between Belarus and Ukraine, Kiev will act “in full,” then Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said.
