Nazi salute to the National Assembly: the deputy author of the gesture announces to make a donation to an association

by time news

The turmoil is already numerous, in the hemicycle. On July 12, the Renaissance deputy (ex-LREM) Rémy Rebeyrotte had made a Nazi salute in the middle of a session at the National Assembly to an RN deputy, whom he accused of having made this gesture. This Friday, he announced that he had made a donation to an association, while renewing his apologies.

“I have decided to make a donation of 1,000 euros to an association that I know well, that I also support and that does remarkable work for the maintenance of memory and support for families, the FNDIRP (National Federation Deportees, Internees, Resistance fighters and Partisans)”, declared in a press release the elected representative of Saône-et-Loire. He also, once again, apologized “to those whom I sincerely hurt (…) and in particular the families of victims of Nazi barbarism”.

A simple reminder

The MP found himself at the center of a controversy after giving a Nazi salute in the Assembly chamber during a vote on the health bill in mid-July, during which the majority was beaten. “A big guy from the RN got up making the Nazi salute” at the back of the spans, Rémy Rebeyrotte had assured AFP. The parliamentarian from Saône-et-Loire then mimicked the gesture, telling him that “we must not do that”.

No visual evidence of such a Nazi salute was found by an RN deputy and the far-right group announced this week to file a complaint for defamation.

Rémy Rebeyrotte, he received a call to order from the President of the Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet (Renaissance). This is the first level of sanction provided for within the institution, which was denounced by several elected RNs who considered it insufficient.
