NEW YORK (AP) — The first basket of the first edition of a cup tournament in the middle of the NBA regular season will surely be in Indianapolis.
The league revealed Tuesday the 60-game schedule for the new tournament’s group stage – the first game of which will be when Cleveland visits Indiana on Nov. 3. The first night will have seven games.
Each team will play four games in the group stage. The winners of the six groups and two wild card teams will advance to the direct elimination round that will begin with a quarterfinal.
A total of 18 million dollars in prizes will be at stake, which will be distributed based on the phases reached by the teams.
GROUPS
The teams were assigned in groups of five last month. They will play a match against each other as part of the tournament.
Group A West – Memphis, Phoenix, Lakers (Los Angeles), Utah and Portland.
Group B West – Denver, Clippers (Los Angeles), New Orleans, Dallas and Houston.
Group C West – Sacramento, Golden State, Minnesota, Oklahoma City and San Antonio.
Group A East – Philadelphia, Cleveland, Atlanta, Indiana and Detroit.
Group B East – Milwaukee, New York, Miami, Washington and Charlotte.
Group C East – Boston, Brooklyn, Toronto, Chicago and Orlando.
CALENDAR
All games held on Tuesdays and Fridays in November will be designated tournament play days, except November 7 for Election Day.
The quarterfinals will take place between December 4 and 5. The semifinals will be on December 7 in Las Vegas, and the championship game at the same venue on December 9.
