Drafted in 44th position by the San Antonio Spurs on June 22, Sidy Cissoko was not guaranteed to receive a contract for this 2023-2024 season. Indeed, a selection in the second round of the draft does not guarantee becoming an NBA player. But his performances in the Summer League, in which he played five games averaging 5.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists, convinced Spurs to offer him a three-year lease.

It’s a standard contract that he initialed, which is rather rare for a player chosen in the second round of the draft. His presence in the NBA is therefore guaranteed for the next two seasons. The third is an option that the Texas franchise can exercise if it wishes.

A young but talented team

There will therefore be two Frenchmen at the Spurs this season. As a reminder, Victor Wembanyama was chosen first in the draft by the former franchise of Tony Parker. The former Mets 92 player has only played two Summer League games but has already shown some great things. He also skipped the Worlds with the France team to prepare for the next season, during which he will be eagerly awaited.

It is still difficult to know what the two Habs will be able to aim for with their franchise this season. The Spurs are full of talent but do not have many experienced players and will have to fight to reach the play-offs.
