An external investigation was opened following a complaint from an employee.
Emergency change at the head of NBCUniversal. The chief executive of the American media group, Jeff Shell, announced on Sunday his resignation with immediate effect after the revelation of a “inappropriate relationship” with one of his colleagues. This decision was taken from a ” agreement “ with Comcast, the company’s parent company.
An external investigation was opened following a complaint from an employee. “I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company, which I deeply regret,” acknowledged whoever took the reins of the group in January 2020. The brief statement did not specify who the woman was and did not include any other details regarding the investigation. The departure of Jeff Shell comes at a pivotal time for Comcast.
The group is due to publish its quarterly results on Thursday. Comcast Chairman Mike Cavanagh will lead NBCUniversal on an interim basis until a replacement is named. This isn’t the first time an NBCUniversal executive has been forced to resign for abusive behavior. In 2020, Ron Meyer, then vice-president of the group, had to leave his post after the revelation of an extramarital affair.

At the time, Jeff Shell judged Ron Meyer’s behavior “not in accordance with the rules and values of the group”. Three years earlier, Matt Lauer, former face of the American show «Today” (NBC), was being fired after allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior with staff members.
