The allegations of political-mafia election swapping in the 2018 regional elections concern a total of eight people

AOSTA. There are eight people under investigation for political-mafia electoral exchange in the context of Egomnia on the conditioning of organized crime on the 2018 elections for the renewal of the Valle d’Aosta Regional Council. The Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office closed the investigation formalizing the accusations against politicians, former presidents of the Region, entrepreneurs and other subjects in the smell of ‘Ndrangheta.

In light of the outcome of the investigations carried out by the Dda of Turin and the carabinieri of Aosta, the Turin prosecutors Valerio Longi and Stefano Castellani investigate the former presidents of the Region Antonio Fosson, Renzo Testolin and Laurent Viérin, the former regional councilor Stefano Borrello and the former regional councilor Luca Bianchi. They are suspected of seeking or accepting electoral support for the 2018 regional teams from people believed to be close to the ‘Ndrangheta in exchange for promises of favors. The other suspects are the restaurateur Antonio Raso, Roberto Di Donato and Alessandro Giachino, already convicted in the first degree in the Geenna trial.

Former presidents Testolin and Viérin are being investigated for competing in the political-mafia electoral exchange with Di Donato and Giachino. Both would have accepted the “promise to procure votes” made by Di Donato and Giachino in exchange for the “promise to facilitate them in relations with the administrative activity of the Valle d’Aosta Region, with particular regard to the solution of problems related to the execution of contracts and work in the private building sector, to obtain public works for firms and companies attributable to members of “the ‘ndrangheta” or to people close to them “.

The accusation made against former President Fosson, who would have turned to Antonio Raso to obtain support for the elections, is similar.

Stefano Borrello and Luca Bianchi are being investigated with Antonio Raso and Alessandro Giachino for votes in exchange for the “promise” of facilitations “in relations with the administrative activity of the Valle d’Aosta Region, with particular regard to the solution of problems related to the execution of contracts and works in the private building sector “.
