An essential factor for the development of different sectors of activity, the financing of energy and digital projects occupies decision-makers in the sub-region. With nearly 4,000 billion FCFA, the partners at the Abidjan round table are committed to financing the Energy Pole Development Strategy (SDPE) and the Regional Digital Economy Development Program (PRDEN). This was made known at the end of this forum by the President of BOAD. Explaining that during this round table, “a remarkable commitment of donors to the sustainable development” of West African economies was noted, Serge Ekué assured that this is a “collective success” to finance the SDPE and the PRDEN”. Placed under the theme “Universal access to energy and digital technology for sustainable development in WAEMU”, this meeting, according to Minister Adama Coulibaly in his closing speech, is “a unique opportunity to present but also evaluate the progress made, as well as to chart the way forward in the implementation of the Energy Pole Development Strategy (SDPE) and the Regional Digital Economy Development Program (PRDEN), two major UEMOA projects” . Stressing that the discussions were both informative and constructive, highlighting challenges and opportunities, “the effective implementation of commitments, he will say, will be the real test of our determination and our ability to work together for the well-being of our populations.” Measuring the importance of energy and digital technology in economic promotion and development, he did not fail, in his capacity as President of the UEMOA Council of Ministers, to invite the member states and the Commission of UEMOA, in its coordination role, and in collaboration with BOAD, to “ensure that these commitments benefit from the best possible monitoring and evaluation, that they are respected and that the expected results are achieved”. For his part, President Abdoulaye DIOP welcomed the good organization of the round table of SDPE and PRDEN projects. He thanked His Excellency Alassane OUATTARA, as well as the members of the Government of Côte d’Ivoire for the interest given to the success of the common cause, for the well-being of the populations of the Union. The President of the UEMOA Commission expressed his warm thanks to the President of BOAD and all the Technical and Financial Partners for the excellent mobilization. Other announcements from Partners made after the official closing of the round table will allow the total amount of commitments to be reassessed upwards.
As a reminder, the search for financing for the Energy Pole Development Strategy (SDPE) is estimated at 7,542 billion FCFA and 121 billion FCFA for the Regional Program for the Development of the Digital Economy (PRDEN).
