The outdoor furniture itself was created in the Mecklenheide workshop meeting place in Hanover. The bookcase is maintained by participants in the Roter Faden youth workshop. “It is actually designed so that interested people can take books out of the cupboard and also put books in them themselves. But we also receive donations of books, which we then gradually sort into the cupboard and we look after the contents,” explained the deputy youth workshop manager Rieke Kauer. We are very happy that the bookcase is now available again. “We have a lot of calls and “We received emails or people also came to our workshop and expressed their regret because they were missing the cabinet. Now we have already noticed a lot of use in the first few days,” she added. The bottom floor of the bookcase, which is now transparent, is reserved for children’s books.

During its existence, the Diakonielädchen team has so far been able to donate surpluses from the business eleven times to social-diaconal purposes in the Ronnenberg city area. Around 20,000 euros were raised, said Andrea Schink. She thanked the volunteers as well as the people who donate goods for the shop and who visit the shop during its opening hours on Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and ‘purchase’ things there in return for donations. “The DiakonieLädchen is no longer a project, but rather a local institution – for environmentally conscious people, those in need and bargain hunters who like to look into the store through the beautifully designed shop windows. The DiakonieLädchen is supported by the Catholic community, the Evangelical Lutheran St. Michael’s Parish Ronnenberg, the Diakonieverband Hannover-Land and the Johanniter accident assistance.

The location for receiving goods for donated dishes, decorations, games and small appliances will soon change. This is closed in November and then moves from the Johanniter Accident Aid in Hagacker to the basement of the Diakonisches Advisory Center, Am Weingarten 1 in Ronnenberg. Starting in December, the team will be there again every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to accept donations.
