He said these things after a meeting with British Ambassador to Bangladesh Sarah Cook at his office in the Economic Relations Department (ERD) in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of the capital on Tuesday (August 27).
Asked what kind of assistance the UK will provide to recover the stolen money, the finance adviser said, today’s meeting did not discuss this issue. But Bangladesh Bank is working on it.
The adviser said, the UK will help us in restructuring the capital market and trade policy. We talked about this. Before that we will create business friendly environment. The UK will invest in the private sector on a G2G basis. The big commercial sector of that country will work here. Will work in education, women development and child protection.
British High Commissioner Sarah Cook said that the talks were very fruitful and said that the UK and Bangladesh have a very strong economic, trade and investment relationship. We are very keen to expand our trade and investment relationship and we have discussed how the UK can support Bangladesh’s economic reforms and how we can enhance our trade and investment relationship.
Responding to a question about bringing in more FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) from the UK, he said, UK has a very strong partnership with Bangladesh. We have a strong investment climate. Of course, we want to see more FDI in Bangladesh.
The High Commissioner said, I have discussed with the adviser how we can build investor confidence and strengthen our trade and investment relations.
In response to another question, Sarah Cook said that she had discussed with the finance adviser about the economic reforms that Bangladesh is prioritizing and how the UK can help Bangladesh in this regard.
