The President of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation Lubo Ganev held a meeting in Varna with the new mayor of the city, Blagomir Kotsev.

As is known, our country is applying to host the European Men’s Championship in 2026.

“I had a meeting with the new mayor of Varna. I have met with over 60 mayors since I have been president, I maintain excellent relations with the local authorities.

Since October, I have set myself the task of visiting all the municipalities and talking to all the mayors to discuss how we can interact. We will try to host the European Men’s Championship in 2026, with Varna being one of the candidates to host matches.

The demands are getting bigger and we wanted to discuss what we can expect from the state. We need to look for additional partners, so I’m knocking on every door to have financial stability. The hall in Varna is the first in the country that meets all requirements for more than 30 years. We will have volleyball events every year – this year we have two European and one world junior championship,” Ganev said.

He also commented on the appointment of the new head coach of our men’s team, Gianlorenzo Blengini.

“The negotiation process with the new coach was not difficult. We waited for the right moment. He must create the necessary prerequisites for building volleyball players from the lower levels, there must be continuity so that the tactics are the same for both men and juniors .

Blengini’s business card is serious, our goal is long-term. His contract is for three plus two years and we want to qualify for the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028,” commented Ganev.
