As Day.Az was told in the Ministry of Energy, at a meeting with the executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Fatih Birol The situation and prospects in energy markets were discussed, as well as issues of cooperation within the framework of COP29.
The important role of the “Global Energy Storage and Grid Commitment”, initiated by Azerbaijan, in the implementation of the “Global Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Commitment” was noted. It was emphasized that two obligations, including the green energy zone and corridor, stem from Azerbaijan’s experience in this area.
Upcoming events with the participation of the Agency were also discussed, such as a ministerial roundtable dedicated to the announcement of energy initiatives of the COP29 agenda, which will take place on November 15, Energy Day, expanding investments in tripling renewable sources and doubling energy efficiency, dynamic decarbonization of the oil and gas industry , creating infrastructure to achieve the energy transition, tripling capacity in electrical systems and cooperation within this framework.
An exchange of views took place on the “4th High-Level Dialogue on Energy Transition”, which will be chaired by the Minister of Energy and the Executive Director of the Agency. A proposal to hold an event during the COP dedicated to the presentation of the “Energy Efficiency Roadmap for Azerbaijan” developed by the IEA within the framework of the EU4Energy program was also discussed and agreed upon.
The meeting with the Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Francesco La Camera, focused on the activities that will be carried out during COP29 together with the Agency. In particular, the organization of the event “Tracking the UAE Consensus Energy Results – Beginning of the Report” and the Energy Transition Investment Forum for Central Asia, which will be held during Pre-Cop29 with the participation of Azerbaijan, were discussed.
Other events and current issues planned with the participation of IRENA were also discussed.
