The Tax Agency published this Friday its list of defaulters. This is the tenth edition since in 2015 the Ministry of Finance then directed by Cristóbal Montoro decided to launch this document with the name and surname of those who maintain a debt of more than 600,000 euros with the treasury, a figure that in 2021 will be lowered from the million euros.

A total of 6,076 taxpayers appear on this new blacklist, with a debt to the Treasury of 15,212 million. Figures that have fallen by around 14% compared to the previous year, after several Supreme Court rulings that establish that debtors who do not have a firm sanction should leave the document, as well as those immersed in criminal proceedings if they have not received sentence.

Among the new faces that make their debut this year in the document that questions their reputation, ex-referee José María Enríquez Negreira stands out, immersed in the biggest corruption scandal in Spanish football, of course favoring FC Barcelona and who owes 1.1 million euros to Treasury. Also joining the list are the Toys R Us Iberia toy chain, with more than three million euros, Club Deportivo Badajoz or former Brazilian soccer player Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira, both with around 800,000 euros.

In total, the 630 new people who have entered maintain a hole of 955 million euros. And among those who remain in it and increase their debt, eight Abengoa companies stand out, with 93 million. The well-known businessman Ángel de Cabo, sentenced in 2015 by the National Court to five years in prison for depriving Marsans of assets, rises 1.6 million to 10.7 million. And_the same happens with the writer César Vidal (3.4 million in total) and Real Jaén (1.7 million).

Other regulars have managed to reduce their debt, but are still on the list. They are the actress Paz Vega (down 1.26 million and remains at 1.67 million), the television presenter Patricia Conde and Mario Conde, who still owes 6.4 million to the Treasury. The former partner of Iñaki Urdangarín, Diego Torres, or the commission agent Luis Medina are two of the other faces that have not managed to lower their figure below the established limit.

Uncertain future

The records of the Tax Agency also keep surprises in a more positive tone. Among those who have managed to get rid of the enormous weight of being in the focus of the Treasury, the former vice president of the Government and former president of Bankia, Rodrigo Rato, stands out, who in the previous document appeared with a debt of more than 1.39 million euros, although He could re-enter later because he is still pending a trial for alleged money laundering and tax fraud accused of hiding the origin of his millionaire assets.

Also left out, at least for now, is the talk show host Kiko Matamoros, with 704,000 euros last year, and the former soccer player Dani Alves, currently in jail awaiting trial for alleged rape and who accumulated 2.8 million euros, also disappears. And the same is true of fellow former players Gabi Milito (more than a million euros in debt in the previous list) or Samuel Etoó, (who owed 981,000 euros).

The famous of the gossip press Kiko Matamoros is one of those who no longer appears on the list of large debtors to the treasury.

Among the regulars, the writer Ildefonso Falcones, who in 2022 appeared with a debt of 1.7 million, the Gipuzkoan businessman José María Aristrain (1.26 million) and the chef Sergi Arola, after reducing or paying off his previous debt of 985,000 euros.

In total, 1,591 debtors have left the list. “It can be due to both the total or partial cancellation of debts, as well as obtaining a postponement or suspension before the date of data collection (12/31/22), or due to lack of firmness of the debt” , indicate from the Treasury.

In fact, of those 1,591 who leave, 636 succeed thanks to the aforementioned Supreme Court rulings. And_other 322 have been spared from entering again by current jurisprudence. In total, 958 debtors that will not be published in 2023 for that reason.

Impact of the crisis

Like every year, companies in the real estate sector occupy a leading role in the list, showing that the burden of the brick crisis is still very powerful. Among them Reyal Urbis repeats as the company that owes the most money to the Treasury, with 293.95 million euros.

The impact of the crisis has also been felt in the amounts owed. Of everything accumulated by these large debtors, 6,230 million euros (41% of the total) corresponds to companies affected by a bankruptcy process.

1,805 taxpayers have been recorded who owe the treasury more than 600,000 euros under this circumstance, 30% of the total. “Therefore, it is a debt affected by a process in which the possibilities of effective collection are limited,” they clarify from the Tax Agency. In the above list, just over 6,787 million euros (38%) were registered, corresponding to 2,067 debtors, 29% of the total.
