This Sunday there was a fire in one chemical plant of the company BioLaband manufacturer of pool and spa treatment products, in GeorgiaUSA.
The events occurred around 5 in the morning (local time) at the BioLab plant located in ConyersGeorgia, when a massive fire broke out, allegedly caused by the sprinkler head malfunction.
Conyers authorities explained that the conflagration began when said head failed came into contact with a water-reactive chemical.
Fire at BioLab plant was controlled, but reignited hours later
Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett reported that the spectacular fire originated on the roof of the chemical plant BioLab in Georgia, and that although the fire department was able to control it, hours later it gained strength again.
Through a message on Facebook, Sheriff Levett asked the population not to approach the area of the chemical plant.
He even pointed out that the incident has caused evacuations of neighbors between Sigman Road and Interstate 20, as well as the road closure in the area as the interstate in both directions between Salem Road and Turner Hill.
Likewise, he asked residents north of Sigman Road shelter in place and keep windows closed.
BioLab plant had already suffered a fire in 2020
In September 2020, the same plant BioLab in Conyers, Georgia, had already been the victim of a similar event.
According to what was reported by the authorities, the BioLab plant suffered a “thermal decomposition event” that led to a fire.
On that occasion, it also caused some damage such as the temporary closure of Interstate 20.
According to the report from the United States Chemical Safety Board, the incident was due to the strong winds of Hurricane Laura, which damaged the laboratory warehouse.
The above caused rainwater to enter the building and as a consequence, the liquid came into contact with a chemical substance and generated a reaction which finally caused the fire.
