Neighbors of a village in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district are expressing their surprise and shock at a couple who were arrested for allegedly performing witchcraft and human sacrifice of 2 women in order to increase their wealth.
In Pathanamthitta’s Elandur, the people living near the couple’s house were shocked like everyone else after learning that the shocking human sacrifice had taken place near their home. Accused Bhagwal Singh is a massage therapist, haiku poet and his wife Laila is a very ordinary family woman. They said they couldn’t believe that the easy-going couple would have indulged in such a heinous act.
On October 11, Bhagwal Singh and Laila are arrested. The investigation revealed that the house they were living in was their native house and many people in the area knew them well.
Neighbors were shocked to hear the news of the human sacrifice through television. Not a single bad thing to say about them. We have seen them in many shows recently. They have no change. They said they were as usual.
After learning this information we could neither eat nor sleep. Neighbor women say we are still unable to recover from that shock.
State Police IG (Southern Zone) P. Prakash has said about the incident of human sacrifice: Two 50-year-old women from Kathavandara and Kaladi areas of Pathanamthitta district, who were selling lottery tickets on the roads, were investigated on the complaints received last June and September.
In this investigation it was revealed that both of them were sacrificed. Their bodies were found to be cut into small pieces and buried at two places in Elandur village in Tiruvalla.
Bhagwal Singh, who identified himself as a massage therapist from Tiruvalla, his wife Laila and Rasheed (R) Mohammad Safi from Perumpaur were arrested in connection with the incident. In the first phase of investigation, it was revealed that the two women were killed in the couple’s house in Tiruvalla and buried in Elandur village in order to increase their wealth.
He said that further investigation is being conducted regarding various details including how the murdered women were brought to this village.
