Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar called for a discrimination-free Bangladesh and said that this year’s puja should be the puja of new Bangladesh. There can be no minority-majority in Bangladesh. We are all one family here.
He said these things in the chief guest’s speech at the discussion meeting on the celebration of Autumn Durga Puja 2024 at Tangail District Commissioner’s meeting room on Monday.
Calling for increasing social awareness, the adviser also said, “We will rejoice in Eid and be afraid in Puja. This is not happening.” Why should be afraid of worship? It can’t be possible to make the puja happy with police and Ansar. We want Hindus and Muslims to rejoice together in the puja. That’s why social conditions have to be created.
The advisor also said that the movement had peaked as a result of discrimination and deprivation and accumulated anger among the people for a long time, and this movement was a movement of people of all levels, especially the students. Thousands of people lost their lives in this movement, most of them students. Therefore, the interim government formed as a result of this movement is not only a responsibility, but a duty.
Mentioning Bangladesh as a country of harmony, the advisor said, Muslims go to worship at various times, while orthodox believers also come to celebrate the joy of Eid. At this time, the adviser expressed his satisfaction to see that the local administration, law enforcement forces along with the army are working together to the maximum to celebrate the puja of the Sanatan religious people.
Under the chairmanship of Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque and Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarbik Ziaul Islam Chowdhury, Police Superintendent Md. Saiful Islam Santu, District Puja Celebration Association President Chitta Ranjan Sarkar, Secretary Jhantu Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Director Local Government, Civil Surgeon, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer, Army Officer Captain Shaon and other public and private officials were present.
Later, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser visited various Puja Mandapas of Delduar Upazila. At this time Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development and Human Resource Management) Sanjay Kumar Mahant, Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mustafa Abdullah Al-Noor, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Local dignitaries including Soheb Khan, Delduar Upazila Branch Pooja Udjakar Parishad President S. Pratap Mukul, General Secretary Palash were present.
